Ace, if theres an option to set the process priority, set it to lowest (idle), the client will then move over and relinquish the CPU whenever something else, like a game, requests it.

I don't care ace. I'd think they would want to fold for their own team though. It takes like 20 seconds to set one up.

But the main point is that they contribute. If they don't want to set up a team for their board, then I'd be happy to have them on board if willing to contribute.

This is not MY team anyway. It is our team, and ultimately, our work is for a good cause. I just took the initiative and formed a team for us is all.

I'm in. The username is Dove. (It's what I use everywhere my older name Drakona hasn't been already established, and I joined F@h before I knew there was going to be a DBB group for it.)

This is an awfully cool project. I don't have that many CPU cycles to donate, but I'll do what I can. :)

I've got a new machine with a 3GHZ hyper-threaded P4, so as soon as I get my computer set up at college, I'll join in too :).

Man, F@H has got me working on some kinda HUGE workunits. My 2700 has been working on the same unit nonstop for over a day now, and my router just got done crunching the work unit it was handed when it first started.

im having a problem accessing the team number in the config, i put in 37090 but when i check the stats, its showing me a completely different team.

this is what it shows to me when i try to access team stats from the program itself:
Folding Team 37090 wrote:

Active CPUs within 50 days 1
Team Id 37090
Grand Score 1873.0 (certificate)
Work Unit Count 17 (certificate)
Team Ranking (incl. aggregate) 5543 of 32713
Home Page

Team members

(within team) User Score WU
1 RYBI 813.0 8
2 SIR_DARIUS 286.0 2
3 SAMMY 249.0 1
4 JANOSCH 242.0 1
5 LUKE 128.0 1
6 BOFRA 108.0 3
7 MIKE 47.0 1
but when i click your link Stress, or copy and paste it, it gives me the DBB Team......what gives?

EDIT: NVM i found the problem.......i was entering team 37090 when its supposed to be 39070...DUH!!

LOL, no kidding. I switched my team over 3 days ago and it took it this long to give credit to the new team. Maybe my ginormous WU was clogging the pipes? :P

rofl goob :) It will give you mad points tho

After a little pit of searching I've seen 1 single WU give as much as 249 points.

Anyway, were off to a great start and after that news from Jim (Which I was going to ask you about anyway) we'll be getting some spotlight very soon :)

Thanks to everyone for joining in on this effort. I just hope we/you all can stay dedicated to stay folding. Using the console and setting it to work as a service will make this project the most easy thing for all of you. it will just run whenever the PC is on, and as Jim said, it takes a max of 1.5% of your PC when playing a game or something so it's not a hog.

Cant wait till you switch Jim :)

1) remove the shortcut in the startup menu (start > all programs > startup)

2) DL the console version for windows on teh F@H website.

3) Place the exe in the Folding@Home folder in your program files

4) Create a shortcut for it on your desktop

5) right click the shortcut and select "properties"

Add the command line to the shortcut as pictured -local -config

Image

6) run the shortcut and read the options. Plain enter leaves the selection as default. It will ask you if you want to run it as a service. Type "yes" and hit enter without the quotes.

once done, it will run. The service change will take affect the next time you boot.

7) Go back to the properties of the shortcut and remove the -config switch.

Keep the shortcut just incase you ever decide to turn off the console and want to restart it without rebooting.

from that point forward it will just run. Pretty cool.

If you have a hyperthreaded machine then you want to add some steps.

1) make another folder in your program files called folding@home2

2) copy, not drag and drop, all of the contents from the first one (Including the console you just added) to the new one.

3) create another shortcut for the 2nd version linking to the console's exe in the 2nd folder.

4) use the -local and -config switch on this one and run it

5) when it asks if you want to modify the advanced options type yes and hit enter.

6) Tell this one to run as a service too

7) tell this one to use "2" for machine id, it will be set to "1"

8) once running edit the shortcut removing the -config switch.

now you can run two instances and it will use all of the CPU.

Thanks Stress, I'll give that a shot. Is the service/console version noticably faster than the graphical version that sits in the system tray?

I'm not sure if it is or isn't. My guess is that it is. It sure is less headache to deal with, that much I do know.

Jim can probably answer if it is faster. Jim?

Outstanding! I have one more server with a little 800MHz celery, a 2.2ghz notebook and a 2.5Ghz HTPC I can roll in too. That will give me 10 processors in there.

I even got my mom doing this from her PC at her house :) A strapping 2ghz Dell :)

FYI - You cannot (at least I cannot) run F@H in the background (GUI version) and play Doom 3. For some reason, Dm3 doesn't recognize the keyboard keys if F@H is running. It sees cntrl-alt-del and the mouse but nothing else.
