the thing I have had problems with in the past was trying to use a FX series AGP card and a PCI TNT card. The drivers just would not work. For a FX and Ti series it may or may not work. I am not sure. This time around I just chose to go with 2 FX series cards.
In the TNT/FX fiasco I ended up using a PCI AIW from ATI to get it working. So you can use different brand chipsets. It just would seem to me that if you were going to use two same branded chipsets you may want to try using same-generation chipsets.
The machine should have no problem detecting whatevr you throw in it. Just an issue of making the drivers play nicely with each card.
