riiiiight, oh wise and mature oneVertigo 99 wrote:Oh, and one day, you will realize that sexualy-explicit poetic jokes are, on the contrary a lot more "mature" than they are "immature."
I doubt she's as concerned with the sexually explicity poetry as she is with the childish insults, anyway. But both are fairly immature.
Oops, you forgot she's a girl, didn't you? Had to replace it with:Unless, of course, you turn out to be a homosexual.
... when you read the other thread, huh? Chump. That is how us guys think.

Yes I did Lothar. Is there anything wrong with that?
New information, new post. I didn't figure there would be any problem with that at all considering that the post was edited about 4 seconds afterwards.
And lothar, you are the general exception to the norm - not the norm itself. Guys in my age group (our age group? maybe a bit of a stretch to group us together) tend to act precisely the way displayed in that thread. So unless the vast majority of people our age are immature, perhaps we are incorrectly utilizing the term immature? Immature implies that people are not acting their age.
Being "immature," despite popular belief, is a lot more than writing naughty things.

Not true. Immature implies that people are not fully developed. A 4-year-old is physically immature, by his very nature. And a 20-year-old is probably still mentally immature, by his very nature.Immature implies that people are not acting their age.
Most 20-year-olds tell dirty jokes (though most know better to tell them to 14-year-old girls, and most know to post them in NHB where they won't be read by 14-year-old girls.) That makes us, as a group, pretty immature. I mean... seriously... when you think "mature" the first picture in your mind probably isn't someone in the 18-25 age group.
Dedman, when did I say I'm mature? I can be immature and still recognize that others are, too.
And I wouldn't call this a derail, since the original poster's curiousity about age was based on the fact that someone was trying to insult her in a pretty immature way. Talking about expectations for maturity is entirely appropriate within this context.

agreed; i was the first one in that thread that suggested it get sent to NHB. however, we don't know everything about everyone here, and we assume most of the people here are 18-20 (they are) so we act like it.

I work at Albertson's and I sell cigarettes and alcohol on a daily basis. (As afformentioned, I'm 17!) >_> Pretty odd. Moreso because every manager in the store knows how old I am.Top Wop wrote:20.
Im often mistaken for being older. When I was 17 and working for Jewel they was surprised when I told them I was not old enough to scan alcohol. I told them why.

doesn't matter whether he considers them to be. By definition, 2 is prime and 1 is not. So, to find out the 8th prime number, just grab the sequence of primes (Sloane A000040) and find the 8th listed.
18 myself. Funny considering how long I've been around here, really.
I don't consider maturity to be relative to other people of the age group... even if all 20-year-olds go tagging fences (which, thankfully, they don't), that would just mean all 20-year-olds are immature.
In a way I agree with Lothar's statement... most people that I see at that kind of age still seem to act like kids most of the time. Or at least the way I'd expect children to act.
However, many that I've met are also quite capable of acting seriously when they need to as well.
I suppose it is as someone once wrote... no man is sane at all hours.

Not to hijack the topic or anything, but I agree, people in my age range are what I like to call "braindead morons." Self-serving, punk attitudes, little understanding of anything beyond their own small world.
You kinda wonder what the typical age is when most people actually become "adults"...I'm betting 25...
