The hell its not. That moron did something REALLY stupid, and got killed for it. She obviously wasn't all there in the head of she wouldn't have even done something like that to begin with.

Defender: Don't forget suing Marvel and Fox studios for releasing "Daredevil" because it obviously inspired her to do such a thing. That, and video games. Whenever someone dies, theres got to be a video game around to blame for it. After all, why take responsibility for our own actions when we can just blame it on something else?

Just because you're too much of a nerd to imaging doing something so daring doesn't mean it's REALLY stupid. Now you're stepping on my toes. ;) It might have been foolish to attempt it, under the circumstances, but if you know what you're doing that could be a cool dare-trick. I've done hand-stands on large tire-swing structures; when I lose my balance I either place my feet back on the structure, or twist and land on my feet on the ground. It's very dangerous, from the perspective of a non-athletic ground-oriented person, but I've always enjoyed and been good at that sort of thing, so I don't see it quite that way. I'm not foolhardy, I just know what I'm doing.

That's the difference in intelligence, there, Thorne. You know what you are doing and weigh the risks with your abilities. Obviously, she didn't have the intelligence to recognize her lack of ability, and couldn't squeeze from her primitive mind the idea that maybe she should have tried it on something that was over a softer surface.

Watch to see what I can still do
She had had the ability at some point in time. There was obviously misjudgment somewhere in there.

I just really resent the attitude that she was supremely stupid and deserved to die--the 'haha's, 'retard's and darwin awards. That just seems rather heartless, to me. It could have just been an unfortunate accident. Even if it wasn't, though, it's nothing to laugh about...

That's the case with so many darwin awards, really...

In no way did she deserve it. But she obviously wasn't very bright, and that's what happens. Individually, it's a shame, on the whole, it's just reality. I don't think people are laughing at her demise, just at the circumstances.

So, let me get this straight....trying to do gymnastics on a hotel balcony from several floors up ISN'T stupid?

By the way, I love the "nerd" quip. Kinda funny for you to use that as a pathetic attempt at an insult when you don't even know me.
It might have been foolish to attempt it, under the circumstances, but if you know what you're doing that could be a cool dare-trick.
MIGHT have? What planet are you on? That was flat out reckless, and if you ask me if she was that damn stupid to do something like that she deserved what she got.
I've done hand-stands on large tire-swing structures; when I lose my balance I either place my feet back on the structure, or twist and land on my feet on the ground.
Obviously she wasn't experienced enough to even try to recover from her mishap. Further proof of her stupidity.
I'm not foolhardy, I just know what I'm doing.
See, here's the thing. SHE DIDN'T. You shouldn't tempt fate if you don't know what you're doing. If she had been an experienced gymnast, I might have some sympathy for her.

Do we know she wasn't an experienced gymnast?

Even the Cirque du Soleil people slip once in a while. Maybe she was an experienced gymnast who just cramped at the wrong time or slipped and couldn't recover. Or maybe she was an idiot who would've hurt herself doing a handstand in a padded room. I don't know... do you?

We can safely assume she wasn't -- else she wouldn't have done it :P

Darwin awards are a dark comedy, if considered funny at all.
i only find Dark comedy funny if it's being told by someone who is KNOWN for knowing better - so it's outof character, and therefore funny.

otherwise it's just, urg. uncomfortable.

Just before she fell, she had called out to a friend, "Watch to see what I can still do," a police report said. Foul play is not believed to be involved, officials said.
 I thought she said, "Hold my beer and watch this!" :P

trying to do a handstand on the railing of a second-floor hotel balcony,
As a general rule this is always a bad idea unless you don't slip. Then it's just debatable.

In her case, it was clearly a bad idea.

Did she deserve to die? Probably not.
Does she deserve the reward for doing so? You betcha.

Reading that is like looking into some kind of mirror, somehow. :P Well said.
