Ever hear of
Kali? The program that basically powered the Descent/D2 community?

I wish me a bag chock full with hires textures from Novacron for Christmas ...

It's not really an error, just not very good for clarity.
If you don't already know the context.

hehe, exactly. I read that and went .. wtf???? and I've been usin' Kali for years. (10, I think). anyways.. I've been on long enough that grammar and spelling mean little to me in an informal setting like this. I love studing english and rules tho. .. go figure.. I struggled through highschool in english.

a better alternative would be to create models instead....the weapons are basically just animations in a loop

Like 1/2 Gig of RAM.
I have already included a texture quality slider in render options to allow for compressing the hi-res textures to 256x256, 128x128 or even 64x64 (although the last doesn't really make much sense).

Great, that will save me a lot of time at the end when they are all finished. No having to resize them all for the lower end systems.

Mugz,
you can use D2X-XL to save all D2 textures to bitmap files, but its a tedious process. DTX2 would do, too.

DTX2??? What is this?

A small utility program allowing to extract and import all kinds of data from and to descent data files (*.hog - levels etc., *.pig - textures).

I could set up a script to send you a pesky e-mail every 15 minutes, if "it helps".

Perhaps I should threaten to do so unless you at least give us a preview of another high-quality texture you've made? Is that too extreme?

Problem is that Novacron, creative person that he is, currently is more busy with composing music than with building another batch of 100 or so hires textures.

Could it be that this project is just too big for just one person if there are several hundreds of textures? If I remember correctly, there were two people offering to remake some textures to contribute to the project. Is it soo hard to communicate and join forces?
I don't want this marvellous project to die or take forever to be finished. I don't want to rant but unfortunately I can't help with anything but encouragement coz I am not an artist
Keep up the good work guys!

It's the usual problem of talking the walk vs. walking the talk here for those so enthusiastically offering their help in this project. The only one really down to business so far was/is Novacron.

I just would like to say thank you. I did not realize how excited everyone really was about this. I know I was when I had heard of Diedel's D2X build with support for hi-res textures.
To be honest, its not so much the lack of support, as you can see this thread has gone over its limits, flooded with posts. I am not trying to boast at, I am not that kind of person. I'm just trying to make a point to everyone that this is something I want to accomplish, but at the same time not let it take over the other things I want to do in my life. I may or may not be making up excuses, but I will tell you right now, this is something I want to do until the end. I have seen so many great projects (MODs for games and such) just dissapate from lack of time, and that is something I DO NOT want to see happen to this.
So in conclusion, just bug me. Keep posting here. Flood me with Instant messages when I am on, do whatever it takes. Because I will be honest, I procrastinate.
Thank you all for the tremendous support. This is an exceptional community. The Descent series are my favorite games of all time, and it will be awesome when we can all 'relive' our favorite game.
So was that long and cheezy or what? LONG LIVE DESCENT, IT WILL BE DONE!
Serious Harrassment! ;)

We are all eagerly awaiting your Descent Hires Texture pack, so please continue your work on it - right now! And give us what we want. Don't let other things distract you. You cannot just water our mouths by publishing some fantastic in-game screenies and then give us such a serious hangover by starting to compose music (or having any other form of a real life). So go for it, man, and give us one of the greatest achievements in the D1/D2 world ever!

Oh noooovacron! Be a good 'cron and don't make me break out that script: send us a new pic of one of your high-res textures! You know you want to animate some Descent doors at high quality instead of making music!
P.S. Yes, I have a working copy of the script. I have used it before.

Nuclear club waving has ceased....
temporarily.
Duh duh duhh..
P.S. If you need ad-free image hosting, or if you need any other logistical help, I can probably provide that.

hmm this is getting better by the day, is this an own engine you are using Novacron & Diedel?
or do you just render bitmaps and use them as textures?
this does intrest me not that I do 3D modelling yet or so but those textures look incredible, would it be possible to convert Unreal Engine 3.0 for Descent2, when it''s released for public use, would that be a possibillity also, or would that make it too complex?
anyways I'm proud to see that the spirit for Descent2 lives on
I hope that these textures can be used for Descent1 also

D2X-XL can handle hi-res true color TGA images.
