Wrong.
Like I said, I have asked a sheriff AND a security guard, and they both wear armor with trauma plates. I've seen it with my own eyes.
I certainly hope that the sherriff and deputy you talked to aren't the sum total of "most police".

The ancillary problem with it being known about wearing body armour is it makes one more prone to being head shot. The common saying on our shooting league is to, " shoot a double tap to the body and one to the head...just to make sure".

I was told what they wear is standard issue.
I never said deputy either.

Sorry, meant to say 'sherriff and security guard' as you had said. But the point is two people do not represent the nation. The police around here (hot and humid) don't wear the heavy stuff often, the thinner vests are hot enough although I do see the plates on them from time to time...mostly the rookies. I guess that as they get a few years in they start to shed the layers due to comfort concerns.

wierd that they would just forgo some effective armor in the name of comfort...
I suppose they will be wishing they wore their plates when they get shot by some lunatic.

From my previously linked site.
A small bullet fired at KEVLAR encounters fewer threads than a large bullet. A fast small bullet with the same total energy of a large slow bullet will penetrate body armour much deeper. A .357 magnum from a revolver is therefore easier to stop than a .22 magnum from a rifle. Additionally, the harder bullets do not deform on impact as much and penetrate more that softer bullets. A deformed bullet will encounter more KEVLAR and is more likely to be defeated.
Don't know that I am actually disagreeing with you Woodchip. Just pointing out that high kinetic energy can be absorbed better from some kinds of rounds than lower kinetic energy from others. The soft nosed vs titainium pointed round sort of thing that you pointed out.

If the anti-gunner crowd was doing the job right, these bullets would have been specifically listed instead of using generic terminology that can be interpreted in a number of ways.
Quite right. And like those members that didn't read the Homeland Security Act before voting on it I am sure many supporters of the amunition restriction regulations didn't understand the details the way they should have. I guess that is why it died instead of being passed.
