Got the blue orb II

Thanks for derailing my thread and getting it closed guys.

Anyway, I got it today and had a problem. You're gonna laugh.

One of the mounting brackets wouldn't fit because of a capacitor in the way. So instead of driving over to my parents house and picking up the soldering iron to move it, I tried to force it. Thanks to me being lazy I broke the capacitor. I can't find another at RadioShack. There is an electronics parts store that I can try but it is closed so I will have to try on wednesday.

Does anyone know of any other stores, online or physical, where I can buy one capacitor?

it's 6.3v, 1800uF

I can't seem to find these ones online. I did read that it is probably acceptable to replace it with a higher rated one. I have a 10v 2200uF one I took out of a power supply that I can replace it with. I'll read around a little more before I do it though.

Does anyone with electronics skills have any suggestions?

A higher capacity should be ok -- these caps are usually rated +/-20% at best (or -10%/+50%). As long the voltage rating isn't lower, go for it.

Just be sure the cap is low ESR if the other one was.
(Most likely though). That cap should work just fine.

Ehh, I gave up. I don't think my old radio shack soldering gun is getting hot enough. It probably needs a new tip. Anyway, I went down to Frys and bought what appears to be the exact same board (different brand but same layout and chipset) for $50. Now everything is together and I am getting at least 10 degrees less in my temps than before. That orb really is good. I was able to completely stop my lockups and unstability (so far).

Glad to hear....Im still mulling over why there was a capacitor near the mounting bracket to begin with. lol

I had my Orb on 3 boards thus far, never had anything close to impeding it <shrug>

You'll need a professional type iron and on multilayer boards 800░ F min. with 900░ working best...

That radio shack iron will never do it.

For $50.00 I would have bought the dang board too, rather than spend the time on the old one.
