How about a little Hobbit to go with your LOTR?

I've heard reports of both "yes" and "no" in regards to Peter Jackson doing "The Hobbit", but according to this report he is planning on doing it...

So what do you guys think? How old is Ian McKellan? Will he still be able to play Gandalf in a few years? How about the actor that played Bilbo in LOTR? He ain't getting any younger.
Somebody will probably make the movie, but I'll be a little surprised if all of the pieces fall into place to make this feel like an extension of the same story.
