I recently got DX1 to work on my XP machine! Yay I can finaly play Descent1 again!! The only problem is that my Sidewinder Precision Pro doesnt work properly in the game. The hat buttons don't work and neither does the twist. Anyone know how to fix this?
Also, will I have the same problem playing DX2 if I get that??

Switch from fullscreen mode to window mode once you are in the game. Don't ask me why it works sometimes...

in the directory with D2X in it, ther should be a file named d2x.ini open that file with notepad (it should do it by default) and at\\near the top there should be a line that says \"-fullscreen\" (without the quotes) put a ; in front of it. That should do it.

Or press F2 ---> D1x options ---> change screen resolution ---> uncheck fullscreen...

wow thanks guys... this actually works for fixing the hat button. As for the twist, i figured out I just had to bind it to banking in the control config...
wohooo! playing descent 1 again reminds me of being like 13... and i still remember all the music and my way (mostly) through all the mines hah!

Ok now other problem... If I use automap at all suddenly the joy stops working! Whats up with that?

Set the automap resolution to the same as the normal game resolution you use and it should keep working. (use the '-automap' command in the d1x.ini file)

These are all the lines I have in my d1x.ini
-pps 6
-shortpackets
-noredundancy
-playermessages
-cockpit 2
-msgcolorlevel 3
-GL_MIPMAP
-gl_voodoo
What do I add/edit so that fullscreen is always off, and so that my automap has the same resolution as the game?

Edit in:
-1024x768
-automap1024x768
(Change the resolution to whatever you prefer)
Edit out:
-gl_voodoo
Keep in mind though, that it is the switch from windowed to fullscreen or the switch from fullscreen to windowed that makes the joystick work. If you start the game in windowed mode and keep it in windowed mode, the joystick won't work. But if you start the game in windowed mode and switch to full screen when you are playing, the joystick will work. Whichever mode you start the game in the joy will be broken till you change that mode, and any mode change after that will once again break the joystick.
