Problems patching \"Descent2.exe\"

Hi People!!!

As you can see, I'm new on this list and if my english sounds bad I need to say that I apologize for any inconvenience about my english because I originally speak and mainly I think in portuguese...

I'm trying to patch descent II 1.0 to descent II 1.2

I need to say that I'm not using a pirated version or cracked version (for running without the CD inserted) 8)

When the rtpatch patching utility get the descent2.exe to patch it give me this message

--------
Applying HISTORY File Patch for 'DESCENT2.EXE'

error ept0036: Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was
found. No update done since file contents do not match.
--------

And reading the documentation of RTPATCH I can see that HISTORY is something like updating the time/date of the file...

So my DESCENT2.EXE has the following information

Size: 1.448.873 bytes

Created: Tuesday, March, 19th of 1996 00:19:46
Modified: Tuesday, March, 19th of 1996 00:19:46

Is the following date/time right?

Thanx for reading this and my best regards...

If you're using the Descent 2 version that came on the definitive disc set, you already have 1.2 installed.

Usually when the RTPatch file says 'old version not found', it means you already have the patched version installed.

Well, thanx Ferno for the answer...

And let me say that I'm not using the Descent II from the \"Descent 1+2 Definitive Collection\"

But I'm using the version 1.0 as you can see at this text...

--------
DOS/4GW Professional Protected Mode Run-time Version 1.97
Copyright (c) Rational Systems, Inc. 1990-1994

DESCENT 2 Full Version v1.0 Feb 25 1996 20:40:54
Copyright (C) 1994-1996 Parallax Software Corporation
DESCENT is a trademark of Interplay Productions, Inc.

Type 'd2 -help' for a list of command-line options.

Error: Sorry, the Descent 2 CD must be present to run.
--------

I tried to change the date/time to that above using a program that changes date/time and attributes called Attribute MagicPro (shareware)

I changed both Created and Modified values...

But I still can't patch the file using the \"d2_1x_to_12.exe\" file...

Anyway, thanx for the answer... Bye!!!

Thanx Bubbalou for answer me...

I don't have the definitive/infinite abyss version

I have the original Descent II v1.0 (DOS) and I don't have the Vertigo, Verite or 3DFX versions...

I know about the Descent Mission Builder \"DMB2\"

Can anybody here provide me a DESCENT2.EXE (v1.0) that could be sucessfully patched and I would be gratefull for that...

Let me say that I don't intend to run this game on plain DOS, I intend to run using D2X-XL or DXX-Rebirth

Anyway, thanx and any help would be appreciated....

If you are using D2X-XL then you do not need version 1.2, as D2X comes with its own Windows-based executable.

Butcher,

Have a look at this thread.

You might do an MD5 or SHA256 checksum comparison on your DESCENT2.EXE file to see how it compares with the ones in the other post. It sounds like you have a version that is different from all three of mine based on the date on the DESCENT2.EXE file.
