A timely little joke...
A young man was walking the streets of Paris. Suddenly he saw a
rottweiler attacking a young girl. He jumped on the dog, struggled
with it and strangled it. Both he and the girl escaped with minor
injuries.
Immediately excited journalists surrounded him and said:
What is your name? All Paris will hear of you, and the headlines
will be: \"A Parisian hero saved a little girl from a savage dog\".
Said the man: I am not Parisian.
The jurnalists: O.K, so all France will hear of you and the
headlines will be :\"A French hero saved a little girl from a savage
dog\".
The man: But I am not French.
Journalists: OK, so all Europe will hear of you and the headlines
will read: \"A European hero saved a little girl from a savage dog\".
The man: But I am not from Europe.
Journalists: So where are you from?
The man: I am from Israel.
Journalists: OK, so all the world will hear of you and the headline in all tomorrow's papers will read:
\"Israeli killed a little girl's dog.\"

If (like me) you see both Israel and Lebanon as "kids irrationally determined to kill each other", it's just sad.
Don't ever think of Israel as a victim. They give as good (if not better) than they get.

I don't know. Who initiated these last hostilities? I'll admit that Israel doles it out well, but I don't know that they are necessarily initiators the majority of the time. They take the chance to retaliate with excessive force, but that's a different matter. I dunno, neither side seems to be able to let go of things, but at the same time either side will take advantage of the other just laying over and playing dead. It's a touchy subject.

Neither side is innocent. Israel has committed attrocities and treated Israeli Palistinians as second class citizens.
BUT, saying both sides are not innocent is NOT saying they are equally guilty. Every time there has been an attempt at peace, who broke it? Not the Israeli's.
Have the Israeli's done bad things, oh yes, but do they deliberatly target school busses full of children and claim that God says it's okay? Nope.
In the Middle East:
All animals are bad, but some animals are badder than others.

I don't know where the two soldiers were when they were kidnapped and taken hostage but if you think it makes sense to judge Israel's reaction by using this hostage situation as the starting point of the conflict then you have not been paying attention.Ferno wrote:Lebanon captures two israeli soldiers on the lebanon side of the border... Isreal goes blasts the crap out of everything.
oh yea they're only 'defending themselves'. whatever.

from This article:Ferno wrote:Lebanon captures two israeli soldiers on the lebanon side of the border... Isreal goes blasts the crap out of everything.
from This article:Marketwatch wrote:The fighting started last week after Hezbollah fighters crossed into Israel from Lebanon, kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed eight.
from This articleCanada.com wrote:The fighting began when Hezbollah kidnapped two soldiers in a cross-border raid.
The only source that I found that said otherwise was: uruknetShanghai Daily wrote:Iran and Syria are the principal sponsors of Hezbollah, which provoked the fighting when its guerrillas crossed into northern Israel last Wednesday and kidnapped two Israeli soldiers.
And it only takes a few sentences into THAT article to determine that it isn't even pretending to be unbiased. I recommend looking it over though, it gives an insightful look into what the other side is thinking over there.

The joke is hella funny if you've paid attention to media coverage of Israel over the past... oh, as long as I've been alive, and probably longer.
FC, I'd love to give a history lesson, but I don't want to type it out again. Rather than repost what I've been writing over the past couple weeks, just read this thread, specifically the following posts: #1 (history lesson), #2, #3, #4, #5 (mostly quoted articles)

Just adding one more point here:
from this article
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Thursday said the only true solution to the Middle East Arab-Israeli conflict is the destruction of the Jewish state.
...
He went on to question whether or not Israel's Jews are actually human beings.
\"Who are they? Where did they come from? Are they human beings? 'They are like cattle, nay, more misguided.' A bunch of bloodthirsty barbarians. Next to them, all the criminals of the world seem righteous.\"

Which is why Iran should never be allowed nukes at any cost. If we do, end of days will be a reality.Kilarin wrote:Just adding one more point here:
