Apple file copy / data transfer software?

Any recommendations? I'm not looking for something to clone a drive, just a simple program along the lines of
ycopy that I could use to copy a large number of files from one location to another (say, an external hard drive or another computer).

If it's to another application, just drag the files in Finder or use the Terminal.
If it's to another Mac, grab a Firewire cable and put the second Mac in Target Disk Mode (System Preferences : Startup Disk). Then drag the files in Finder or use the Terminal.

Yeah, I know about the Firewire trick. But if I have a dead computer and I have to pull the hard drive out and hook it up to another computer to get data off of it (and it's a large number of files), it would be nice to have a program to copy files unattended (like, say I want to copy everything on the drive, but I don't want to clone it, instead I'm eventually going to split it up onto DVDRs). Finder just doesn't cut it for me. Basically I'm looking for something that will let me specify the source and destination, then copy everything it possibly can, and then give me an error log listing any files that couldn't be copied - no drag and drop stuff.
