IE address window error

A friend gets the following error message when he types an address in the IE address window and clicks \"Go\".

\"Error: IE has encountered a problem and needs to close.\"

If he doesn't close that error window and drags it out of the way he can continue on the page.

If I go and uncheck \"But notify me.... From the Properties of My Computer \"Error Report\" the IE will just close after a new address is typed in \"Address\" window.

I've tried it with no popup stopper..no change.

I do have a HiJackThis log file if that would help.

Have you tried going to Tools -> Options -> Programs -> Manage Add-ons and disabling everything? (Assuming you have SP2)

You could also try and install the IE7 RC1:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx

There will of course be an obligatory \"Install FireFox/Safari/Opera/Don't use the freakin' Internet!\" post as well.

Also check Tools ---> Internet Options... ---> [Temporary Internet files section] ---> Settings... ---> View Objects... ---> remove anything you don't want, or anything that has a damaged status.
