haha, robots, weeee!!!
there was a robotic race across somewhere, i think a north american desert. bacially the USA military put out a $1millionUS prize for the person who wins the race. you had to build a robot was would drive across a lot of desert (autonomous), and i think it may have had to go faster than 40mph (not too sure of this yet).

aaaaaaaaand!~!!......

there was no winner :(

i'm pretty disappointed, no-one even got close.
the one that got the furthest was a modified robotic Humvee, it went about 7miles (and then tried to drive off a cliff)

oh well.

I IMAGINE IT WOULD MAKE A SWEET DOCUMENTARY THOUGH! WHO'S WITH ME

Where's the third option for "idiots shouldn't post to nerd-based video game forums"?

DARPA challenge, Roid.

all the robots failed to pass the 7 mile mark. It started in Barstow, CA (about a 35 minute drive from my job) and was to end in Primm, Nevada.

I talked to the red team members quite a few times during my shift. (they were stayin at the hotel next door)

I am liking Rabid Roid even more now he has acknowledged his insanity. Most fun reading at the DBB for months.

I especially like "Pastryface". I'm gonna use that one. :)

And yeah - the INQ had a synopsis of the event. It sounded VERY embarrassing to me. Average speed to complete teh course would have been about 24 kmh (15 mph)

THG have some videos of the "qualifying" round. Where several bots decided obstacles were ramps.... ;)

The one I especially like is the quote about the Carnegie Melon/ Intel entry in the HUMVEE: The vehiclke become entabgled in something which caused both front wheels to go on fire!!

Sounds like me doing burnouts/donuts in the RX7. :D
