D@-XL 1.8.48 crashes every time played

I recently downloaded the D2 XL mod for my D2 game. I was un-able to start it because of some odd reason. Then, I switched my display to 32-bit color, and the mod started to run. Then things went totally out of hand. When I try to start a new game or single player modes, I pick the level I want to go to. The level loads, but very soon after that, the whole game just crashes at every start of any game level. This happens if I want to fire my weapons, or just by moving.

Now, I'm pretty sure that I meet the requirements for the XL mod, but just to be on the safe side, here are my PC specs, to see if I'm not missing anything important.

-HP Pavilion 7955
-256 MB SDRAM
-nVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 m64 32MB (Currently in 32 bit mode)
-Asus P4B-LA mobo
-Windows XP SP1

If any one who has had the same problem as me, please tell me what you did to correct this mess.

Thanks in advance! :D

Eeek thats some old hardware, escpecially that Riva TNT2 card. Still you might be able to get it to work.

Now nVidia doesnt even support that card anymore. But they do still keep legacy drivers around. Check the driver number for that card. It might be reeeeeeaaaallly low, if it was the standard XP install.

I believe the last official driver that nVidia made that supported that card was:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html

You might be able to get it working.

But I would assume that the latest and greatest D2X takes advantage of more recent OpenGL features so Im not sure.

Thanks

Thanks for the help. I will try this driver update, and see if it works, and then see if DX will finally work. Thanks again! :D

There is a problem with the Windows version of D2X-XL v1.8.48: The SSE instructions I introduced to speed up 3D math may cause crashes on 32 bit hardware. You may want to stick with v1.8.47 or wait until monday for a fix. Ofx, installing the latest available drivers is never a bad thing.
