In the walk-through, it explains this:

The hellion's only weak spot is its head, which is protected by its huge arms. Don't bother wasting ammunition on his back, arms, or other appendages. Instead, go straight for the cranium. It's pretty small, however, and will likely take your best aiming and circle-strafing skills to score some hits.

Below is a shot of a guided missile going for the Hellion, but because the accompaning picture in the walk-through, it is unclear which is the actual head. The green eyes section looks too big for the walk-through description, so I'm asking which one I marked is the head.

The hellion's only weak spot is its head!? It's too hard to destroy it! 'Cuz it alway launch its Super Frag Missiles if it doesn't see me, it's not fair! I think it shield or hull is too many heavy to be destroy. Hellion is a**hole.

It killed me about 20 times! I really really hate that happen many hate!!! I can't fight with that f***ing robot without Quadlaser if Quadlaser is gone after Pyro-GL destroyed. Why did Quadlaser gone.

I've killed him with Black Sharks and Megas, no biggy. The Avault guide sucks, btw.

Stop Brag! I tried destroy it with Mega and Black Shark! Show me how do that!

Seriously, though, try to stay away from the walls, strafe like crazy, and fling everything you have at its head. If you've died while fighting him, your powerups should be somewhere or other within the room, so try to get to the spot where your ship exploded.

I asked, why did my Quadlaser gone after Pyro-GL destroyed? I can't fight with him without Quadlaser.

By the way... after a few hits, it drops an invulnerability... you have to run out and get it... but it's there.

Yeah. I picked an invulnerability up, but Black Shark still can kill any MD if invulnerability have picked up... Black Shark is one number of most damage everything! HUH!? Hellion dropped an invulnerability for me but Hellion and Dravis hate me and any MD! I don't understand why.

lol.. you NEVER use a blackshark at close range!

I know! I'm not stupid! Hellion killed me with its Black Shark's effect in its body when lowest shield or hull.

I played Descent series for many, many, and many years. I know about all of weapons. They're not toy. They're dangerous. But some can damage ships' shield or hull. Missiles alway can damage shield or hull. I NEVER play with any dangerous weapons like The Three Stooges!

the smart way to kill him is if you let your guidebot pick up the antivir powerup. (i think it was called that way) there are several hidden in L15.

with that powerup your guidebot can disable the helion for a short while and killing him is like a walk in the park.

if you need to use primarys, use the fusion cannon. the full charged blobs will pass through his body and damage his head, so you can shot him at any angle.
