Watching DVD's on your PC with a remote?

Hey, I would like to have the ability to control DVD's on my PC with a remote control. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to accomplish this? I saw a nice little M-Play unit by VLSystems that claims it can do this, but I've read some scary things about their software.

MPlayer supports remote control using LIRC, but as this stands for
\"Linux Infrared Remote Control\", its Windows build probably doesn't.
