270 W for a dayum grafic card...

I think my whole rig barely consumes that...

in another word: agreed.

Understand this: that card (alone!) running 3D apps 24/7/365 would cost over $400 in power each year.

Insane. My whole box at maximum draws about 270 watts.

22.5 amperes on the 12V rail or 54A !!! on the 5V rail. way to go...

24/7/365 would cost 460 € per year, thats about 500 US$ me thinks.

but the good news is, the powersupply feeding that beast can also be used for professional welding. :D

I wonder if they will make an AGP version of this...

at this rate, it's beginning to make more sense to integrate the vid card with the monitor. That way the manufactorers could use the power supply they need.

It wasn't that long ago that the entire computer could be run on 270W.

There most likely will not be an AGP version lol, and my 7800GT sucks down 250W, so power/performance ratio its actually gotten better. regardless, the card is freaking huge!

No. Your 7800GT sucks down 56.70W max. :P

Forgive me if Im wrong, but isnt that 270W on the R600 a requirement spec? like my 7800GT spec requires 250W according to the manufacturer? so wouldnt the r600 theoretically not use the full 270W?

if it does, then I agree, thast also very very rediculous, especially if you drop them in crossfire, i mean, damn!

Slight mixup here -- the 270W from the R600 article refers to the max. power requirement of the card itself. The 250W you refer to is most likely nVidias recommended minimum power supply size for a system w/ one 7800GT, not the power requirement of the card.

Well, there are 1000W PSUs out in the wild. Looks like they will become more common..

Yeah, but im saying those 1kw PSUs should need to become more common, thats a lot of power

how big was the Voodoo 6 supposed to be?

crap, a good third of that card is fan.

I hope to god this thing buries the 8800 six feet into the ground, otherwise its the hardware version of Vista.

if AMD was smart and forward thinking, I would include some cable management with that beast.

the 8800GTX is only a half inch shorter then the V5 6000, but that AMD/ATi Card makes the 8800gTX look tiny, and I loooked at the pics again, are thse two power inlets on the back????

Something smells fishy with those numbers, though it is still respectable performance I would expect more out of a product this late with the specs they were claiming. I wouldn't be surprised if there is some serious driver or board issue causing the low performance numbers with that card.

I just *upgraded* to a Geforce 6200 last year...

250W video card? ROTFL! What will they think of next...
