Playing D1/D2 Online

I can play LAN games just fine in D2XRebirth (Haven't tried D2X-XL LAN), but is there a way to:
1) Play online, without a program that costs money.
2) Do LAN play on D1XRebirth (The one LAN Option doesn't work)

I suppose Kali is out because it \"costs money\"?

1.
Kali is your best bet. Its the largest resource for IPX based gaming these days.
2.
Hamachi. Hell, I use this for C&C3 since gamespy can't seem to get their act together.
If you use hamachi, you'll have to use the built-in UDP/IP functionality of XL or Rebirth.

I don't use D1X-Rebirth of D2X-Rebirth enough to be able to say on behalf of the DXX-Rebirth products.... go to
http://www.dxx-rebirth.de and in it's forums you can find out more for that product.
As for D2X-XL... it provides and VERY functional UDP/IP with Tracker for Online play of Descent 2 or Descent 1. If you use it's UDP/IP with Multicast it works VERY well for LAN play. I use it all the time.

Come to think of it, there was a thread in the Cafe posted by Bakdraft (aka INTERNETRACECAR) with the details about setting up hamachi for D1 (which isn't that difficult. All you need is the network logon/pass, and then launch the game when you're connected.

Yeah.. I posted this over at the DXX forum for another guy there.
Kali is just one of the ways to do D1X-R.
Alot of the old school players still play D1 and D2 there.
However, you can use a program called "Hamachi".

The Hamachi server is full, so I will try later.
Kali costs money. It isn't the fact that I don't have money, its the fact I cannot buy anything from the internet, even if it costs 1 cent. So that is out of the question.

It'll probably remain full, as no one bothers to leave the network after having
joined it. Not to worry though, you can always create your own.
