3DS Max Question: Controlling Particle Creation?

I'm trying to animate a gun firing bullets, but with the particle systems and animation that I've been able to produce so far with Max's default particle plugins, all I can choose is basically Off or Machine-Gun. What I really need is something where I can create a keyframe that basically says "Fire Bullet" and causes an emitter to emit one particle. Is there a way to do this?

I think this is where max scripting comes in.
You'd need to make a script that said to create so-and-so particle emitter, set it to these settings, and run it for n number of frames.

I'd say just search google for what you need, as when I used to work with max I'd seen a lot of tutorials on its scripting.

I'll look into it for you later when I get back from school. I've done it before.

It's a complicated particle system, and so far I haven't been able to get it to do what I want. I'm just slow, though. :|

You could also try custom attributes hooked into some kind of particle system or maybe even objects in the gun.
