okay, i just recieved my eVGA 7800GS 256MB GDDR3 card, remember my BFG 7800GS for sale? Grendel told me that the 7800GS is a low quality GPU....... guess i should have listened

this evga version does the exact same thing as my BFG Card did.

put the card in, powered up.........

POST Screen comes up.........

Windows XP Starts to load.......

BAM!!

Black Screen followed by \"No Signal\"

now im wondering if my motherboard will even support a video card this fast? any ideas?

i guess my real question is? should i put the effort into trying a 7900GS or even the new 7950GS video cards?

remember now, i have a AGP slot, not PCI-E, and yes, there is a 7900GS AGP and now even a 7950GS AGP card.

you need a beefy power supply for a 7800 - it would need 12A to itself.

beyond that, it might be too much.

get your money back, and plan for a proper, non-piecemeal upgrade, cause this has bit you in the ass twice already.

a 6800 would've been a better match.

Agreed with flip.

Get your money back, save up and go for a PCI-E system, AGP systems are dead in modern games. Even with a 7950GS the CPU limit will kill you before long.

i already have a PSU with a 2x 22A rails.

right now i have a 6800XT, i know im going to get the P4EE Chip. ( im trying to build the fastest AGP Based machine available, then ill probably sell it. )

You'd be hard pressed to get someone to buy a machine with a slot that is dead. Get your money back, and stick with the 6800XT for now until you can properly upgrade.

no one would buy such a machine - well, not without you losing a chunk of money.

computer tech is a money hole.

very funny :P

i tried something new, i tested the card on its VGA Port on a CRT Monitor instead of my LCD, it does the same thing...... so now im down to mobo doesnt support the card, so im asking around on the Asus forums if anyone knows of any compatibility issues with 7800GS Cards and the P4P800-VM board.

Try messing with the AGP multiplier settings?

cant adjust that in BIOS, i can with the NVidia drivers and Riva. but i cant get to that point with the 78000GS installed

Random thought: Tried messing with the AGP aperture/fastwrite/SBA/drive strength settings in bios (if available)?

right now, the only option i have is aperture. its set at 256MB which is what my current card has and what this 7800GS has. should i go lower or higher? i have 512 available and 128 and on down obviously

Try 64 just for the hell of it, btw does safe mode work? If it does, uninstall the nvidia drivers from safe mode and reinstall when you reboot.

Have you ever used Rivatuner at any point, or any software that uses a driver wrapper? The same scenario happened to me when I went from my 6800GT to 7600GS forgetting to uninstall the nvstrap driver that comes with Rivatuner. After I put the old card back in and uninstalled nvstrap everything worked fine (after putting the 7600gs back in).
