I was working on a machine today and I had to change CPU grease a few times since I couldn't get the thing to cool down. I tried a few different methods for it and attempted to install this other machine's CPU in my own machine since it is compatible. It lasted for a few minutes and gave out. So, this told me that it was the CPU. Before I could put the machine back together to inform the customer, one of the attachment points for the heatsink on the socket A busted off. I tried to glue it back together in a desperate attempt to fasten the heatsink back on but I was better at glueing my hands together as the part was very small.

Anyone else find a way to resolve this?

It's an old socket A for AMD Athlon 2200+ CPU's. I used my old 2000+ and switched both CPU's which was very stupid since my neither CPU is responsive. The customer machine was a moot point since the CPU was already bad. It spanned from 79 to mid-ninety degrees C. My machine, on the other hand, was a gaming rig-converted to a work machine since I REALLY needed one for myself. It was nice to have my own rig since I could do whatever with it and no one could sell it without my permission. I have had so many machines that I used as a work machine that ended up being sold that it isn't even funny.

Anyway, any recommendations for fixing the socket... and does anyone know where you can find a Socket A CPU these days? I doubt it since I know that they aren't produced on the market anymore that I know of.

Your only choice is to either get a heatsink that has a three prong clip instead of one and hope the damn thing isn't dry rotted, or find one that uses the four mounting holes that surround the socket. (the latter being a tad more expensive, even back in the day) Otherwise, its new mobo time.
