Cracked Screen

Bought my daughter a HP about 10 months ago. This winter she took laptop out to car and the screen cracked (due to cold?). Also cracks appear to be worsening.

1) Does cold have this kind of effect?

2) If so have any of you experienced a cold related cracked screen?

3) Is the cracked screen warrantable?

4) Is screen replacable?

Thanks

1) most likely it was the change from cold -> warm or vv if the temp wasn't out of specs (see manual)
2) no
3) I'd guess no (read the fine print maybe ? ;))
4) yes

If not warrantable, how much do replacement screens cost(ballpark)? And how hard are they to replace?

It depends on the warranty. Extended warranties are usually more forgiving than manufacturer's warranties.

Here's a story.

When I was a technician at CompUSA, a customer brought in a laptop who's screen had a molten hole through the left part of it. They had left the laptop near a candle that was burning, and the candle burned a hole right through the thing.

With the extended warranty it was replaced no problem. There you go.

The June 2007 issue of Maximum PC had a write up on this. If it isn't a warranty repair check out http://www.screentekinc.com .
