Delete old user?

On my hand-me-down computer I have loaded a few new programs and started tweaking things.
I noticed under Docs & Settings the old user's name is there and under his \"Apps\" there are some of the programs I installed.
Can I delete the old user and all the folders?
I would still have \"Default\" and Owner although I don't see some of my installed programs under either name.
If I can't delete, can I rename?
He does not showup under \"Users\" in the Control Panel.

Yes.
Do not delete All Users.
Do not delete Default User.
Do not delete/rename the account you are logged in as.
Right click My Computer. Advanced Tab. User Profiles.
Edit: You may want to create a fresh new Admin account and start there. Although I have seen odd things crop up if you delete the admin account that was created during Windows setup.

Thanks. I might just start from scratch. The old user on there is bugging me and that way all would be new again.
If I \"repair\" from Winxp cd I assume it will keep the old users.

back up user content to disks and mail to the user who used to connect to that account.

Correct, repair preserves the existing user accounts and most of the settings. Just boot off the disk and do a new install with formating the drive (google how to back up windows activation so you can skip calling microsoft to get it reactivated).

Thanks for the help. I've done a clean install and all is looking well.
