I only know what a tie-fighter is, so tie-fighter FTW

Star fury, of course! Talk about a no-brainer. Although I always wondered why only human ships in the B5 universe obeyed Newtonian physics and all the others flew as if in atmospheres.

In terms of firepower, the tie fighter would school it so bad it wouldn't even be funny. If you're talking about the coolness factor, then the starfury hands down. :)

The fight would be over in less that 5 seconds

StarFury teh Winnar!

http://b5tech.com/earthalliance/earthal ... rfury.html

As soon as the StarFury was abeam the TieFighter you (Starfury) would just pull a 360 and burn the TF's tailpipe and since he has NO - SHEILDS = BOOM@!

hmm that would make an interesting Mod for FS2 ...

hmmm......

yes, a TIE Fighter mod for FS2 for teh win!

The pole is a tough one, for one, the TIE fighter can just ignore inertia and g-forces, but only has two measly lasers and no defensive systems.

By rights the Starfury would win, simply because it has missiles.

But the starfury can't operate in atmosphere, nothing in the typical one seen in the series has anything that would make it flyable in air. the TIE fighter has an anti-grav unit, but I guess you could fly it with the hexagons parallel to the ground.

That being said, your typical TIE fighter pilot can't shoot straight, period.

the Star Fury also has the ability to slide also. The would make it very difficult for the TF to score a hit. I'm thinking it would really come down to the pilot....but as the TF pilots are all CLONES.. variances would be not exceedingly great.

Ok..

TIE Fighter Specs

Starfury Specs (and Bubba's link, which is better)

I would really be interested in knowing what the actual power out each is given for their individual weapons.

**edit*

ah, 20 megajoules per shot for the SF. and a range of 9320.57 miles. ...o_0

20 MJ/shot... which is approximately five times the projected output of the NIF laser, and that's intended to cause nuclear fusion.

Pretty beefy. :)

Yeah, and the tie fighter would be out of range before the starfury pilot could squeeze the trigger. The starfury tops out at roughly ten gees of acceleration since it has no inertial dampening capability. The tie fighter has no such restriction.

http://www.theforce.net/swtc/tie.html

Honestly, it'd be like shooting spitwads at traffic on the interstate. The fact that the starfury actually OBEYS newtonian physics, and completely lacks any kind of inertial dampening puts it at a SERIOUS disadvantage in terms of manuverability and speed. What good is being able to spin in any direction if you don't have the ability to keep your target in the crosshairs?

As for the starfury having missiles, those were only shown in "Thirdspace", and dumbfire only. (and pathetically slow at that! Even current-day missiles outperform those shown on-screen in every way.

Tie-Fighter is fast. Really fast. And really manoeverable too. That's pretty much what it was built for. But it's also really weak, and could easily go from even a single shot.
I'd still say the Tie-Fighter would win, really just for being so manoeverable.

Oh, and Tie-Fighters actually do have shields. Very, very light though.
