Apparently the french don't know.

You ever watch the American version of this? Just as many dumb arse people.

Never seen the entire audience stupified too.

Filmed in the 1500's, maybe? That's unbelievable.

The question was flawed anyway.... The moon REVOLVES (makes an orbit) around the Earth (although revolve and rotate are interchangeable in meaning). Technically, he answered correctly, but the other answers were correct as well. All of those celestial bodies ROTATE (spin on it's own axis or orbit around a central point) in the vicinity of (or around) the Earth. Heh. He got cheated if you ask me.....

The question never asked what rotates around the Earth. 'Gravite' is french for 'revolve'.

He should have asked for clarification.

Actually, just thinking, I'm not sure that 'gravite' is a well-known word in France. So it could well be a case of not knowing the question rather than not knowing the answer.

There are lots of other things that orbit the earth, too.... many or them put there by us. I agree that the question should have been clarified.... it's all about frames of reference. You can choose whatever frame of refernce you want, and designate whatever you want as \"fixed\" when really nothing is.

It's amazing to me how little average people know about even basic science. How is the Solar System laid out? What are acids and bases? What's a gene? We're not talking about trivia questions that should be looked up in a book or online, we're talking about basic ideas everyone should be aware of. How are we to ever have intelligent conversations on important ideas if people are so utterly clueless?
