DirectX 10.1 Incompatible with DirectX 10 cards?

I have heard all over the internet that the DirectX 10.1 upcoming update Incompatible with DirectX 10 cards. Maybe. Maybe Not. Although i have seen an article on softpedia regarding this issue.

Don't include polls in discussion threads just because the option for them is there.

I would assume DX10.1 will require new hardware to expose all the functionality, but will still work on older \"DX10.0\" cards, in the same way DX9.x can be installed on a system with hardware that doesn't support all the extensions, or even on DX8 hardware.

DirectX 11 will require new hardware. I wouldn't bust a gut over that tho, too far off. As long the current gen of game consoles is only DX 9 compatible there won't be be any true DX 10 games around anyway.

Not to mention that 10.1 isn't even an upgrade from 10.
