D3 + audigy2 = horrible plane crash!

SB Audigy2
Win98SE
Directx9.0b
512mb ram

all drivers are current
software mixing is not available.

what ends up happening is this: i jump into D3, things are kosher UNTIL I get into a fight. then D3 stutters, tanks, and freezes until the fight's over. I thought I had it fixed and i went into an eshaker game (a lot of sounds are played at once). D3 hard locked with horrible screeching coming from the headphones which required a reboot.

so what's up?

Enable V-Sync in drivers and D3 - does this fix the issue, or alter the behaviour at all?

Have you ensured you've enabled 1024 hardware voices (Or the SB version of it) in drivers?

Which sound driver are you using? Direct Sound 3D?

Have you tried moving the sound card to another PCI slot? Definitely do NOT have it in the slot next to the AGP card.

Have you tried disabling sound and getting into a fight? Does the issue go away?

it has nothing to do with video at all

no option for it anywhere.

directsound

if that were the case, then no game would work correctly. it's a software issue.

well if directsound isn't being used, then yes.

SMP? or maybe HT? If so, welcome to the horror of creative's POS SMP drivers. Only way to fix this is to run d3 as a single-threaded process. I can tell you how to do that.

If you don't have SMP or P4 HT, then it's something else, but it should work fine.

He's running Win98, that doesn't support SMP at all ;)

whats yer mobo and CPU fern?

its probably the A2 not joshing with win98.

All things considered, you probably just hit a corner case that creative won't give a damn about.
