Was driving home today and I turned onto my street (divides 2 parts of a farm within the city). I saw this guy land while I was driving and I pulled over, pulled the camera out and snapped some pics.
She is a Merlin. The pic is huge (3888x2592 res) but only 453KB

I've uploaded pics from my cruise (taken with Canon G3)
And the rest of the pics are taken with my new Canon Rebel XTi with the 18-55 USM lens and 70-300 IS USM lens.

I used the Rebel XTi with the 300mm lens. It was about 20 feet up on the top of a utility pole.

Sweet! Got my wife to look at something Descent! Ok, that's a stretch, but WTH, it's a start! (she's a birder... hates Descent)

I've been birding for about 2 months now and I've never realized how many area's we have around here that are dedicated to wildlife and especially to birds.
I've seen the following;
Malard Ducks
Wood Ducks
Canadian Geese
Black Capped Chicadee's
Downy Woodpeckers
Pileated Woodpeckers
White Chested Nuthatch
Killdeer
Gulls (several kinds)
Crows
Turkey Vultures
Merlins
Blue Jays
Cardinals
Swallows
Tree Sparrows
We are hoping to go to a very big nesting ground for migrating birds this weekend near Kingston Ontario. Hopefully we can get some good pics there.

I was watching animal planet last night... Some dude who happened to be a bird watcher wasn't paying attention to how far he wandered off into the woods following a bird... Well he was startled by a noise after walking for an hour or two after the bird... When he took his eyes away from the binoculars... he saw a HUGE GRIZZLY with her cub about 15 feet away... he ended up getting attacked. Played dead... Bear still mauled him but stopped after it realized he wasn't a threat.... Be careful Merlin
Remember.. Bears are like people... They don't like getting creeped up on!

Strife, point taken but where I take these pics there are no bears around. The places I go to are within 15-20 mins of my house which is still within city boundaries.

Yes, after I posted I saw your other post. Which is good, she wanted to see it's claws. Thank you! Nice pics!
