The Darkness Cometh!

Post by Zuruck »

Does anybody here like the Darkness? I finally got the chance to see them last Friday night in Milwaukee and they are so fricken' amazing live. Tight solos, great sound, great energy, and the singer hits everything live. Check this out. Dont mind the person in the middle, I"m not part of the band :)

While I'm speaking about bands, I finally got a picture of some of my gear and me in a warm-up before a gig Saturday night. Second picture is me cranking out the solo to Ten Year's Gone :)

For those who can't tell, the guitars are as follows.
From left to right:

Musicman Axis
Les Paul Custom
Taylor 710ce
Fender Strat
Fender Tele

Mesa Boogie Rectifier seen in background, pictured with 4x12 rectifier cab, not pictured is Peavey 5150 cab. THD Hot Plate piggybacked on top.

ah yes, the Dorkness.....

In all honesty it doesn't surprise me that you went and saw them and enjoy their music Z :P

Even the guys on the radio station I listen to think their complete and utter crap and the only reason they play them is because the station execs tell them they have to.

I swear, they nita stop lumping punk rock in on the hard rock / heavy metal stations. There is a HUGE difference. The biggest being hard rock and heavy metal don't suck :P

if it's the band i'm thinking of the are more like glitter-c.ock-rock-hair band.... definitely not punk rock. to be honest i haven't heard a "punk rock" band in a long long long time. (southern california guys with green hair, power chords, writing about 'girls' and tons of auto-tune on their voice don't count)

Nice, The Darkness isn't a great band of all time, but they're definitely cooler than a lot of the stuff on the radio now. I loled at the Stryper shirt one of the guys in the band was wearing. Man, you've got a sweet set of axes and amps. I'd take the Axis, LP, Boogie and cab for sure. I was gonna start fine tuning my chops again after school ended, but all this makes me wanna start earlier. G3 is more along the lines of my guitar tastes though.

thats really cool you got to hang out with them, Z!

personally tho, most of their material sounds really similiar, there's about 4 definite changes during the entire album you can hear, unless you've got your ear up against the speakers :P

punk rock? wtf?

they are definatly th hairband style who just happend to come along at the right time to get heard.

Yes, punk rock, like the Sex Pistols, duh.

Anyone who says they sound like an 80s big hair band obviously didn't/hasn't listen to much 80s hard rock.

generally id just call it britpop with muscians [playing own music].

its all i constantly read that they fit right into the 80's "cheese"...

so hey if you can class them as punk rock (rofl), then i can make that mistake? :)

soon bash. but i dont have any kind of recording software on the computer. so i dont have any way of getting it mixed on the computer is a decent way.

I think of the Darkness like this. After seeing them live, their stuff is NOT easy to play. The rhythm guitar is not that complicated, but the solos are well written, well executed, and well placed. They are not led zeppelin, or the stones, or any other classic bands. But instead of what else is out in the world, the darkness rock.

Britpop eh? so they're like the Spice Girls? :P thats what I'd consider Britpop. Thats why I said punk rock because in a way they remind me of the Sex Pistols and last time I checked the Sex Pistols were punk rock.

Oh I completely forgot. On Saturday, they were signing albums at Rolling Stones records here in Chicago. Some jag in front of me wanted three guitars and a bunch of professional pictures autographed. They wouldn't do it. They got mad at the guy and told him to take a hike because they werent' going to sign something so he could turn around and sell it. The guitars were still in plastic and the photos were stupid. I respect them a lot for doing that.
