Wide Screen LCD recommendation

Post by FireFox »

Ok seeing that I bought my main gaming rig some time with oc’ing it I’m focusing my attention again on my media rig. So I need a recommendation on a good Wide Screen LCD.

Main use:
Media box setup in my bedroom (Running XP Pro )
DVD’s, Music and some web browsing

Looking in the size range of 22” (give or take what the budget allows me) considering this is to be used as my main DVD watching center. Currently have a **cough**14” CRT**cough** hooked up to it so I can at least play some music on it at the present moment.

So what do I need to consider, lookout for, known bugs and issues ect…

BTW system spes of the PC is as follows:
Intel P4 1.6gHz oc 2.13gHz
512Ram (PC133) I know but this is a hand-me-down box I’m putting to some “good” use
AGP nVidia 6600GT GFX – Bit busted can’t run 3d apps anymore (lighting will do that to a card) still good for DVD’s thou
Old SB live
20gig HDD

Thanks in advance.

Get a 24 for the better resolution. Viewsonic is great stuff.

Viewsonic is awesome. Great support, great products, definitely worth the extra money. I have 2 of them and they both work wonderful (although one has a blue dead pixel in the middle of the screen, but it is not obvious).

Samsung 244T (1920x1200). This screen rocks. Seriously.

+ AG Neovo F-419 (1280x1024) as second monitor.

just looked at the Samsung monitor HERE I like the ports that it offers however, personally, I think it would be better with a lower refresh. 6ms is good, but 5 or 2 is better.

MD's is a better buy and faster even if it is "only" 22 inches and not 24. ;)

At 60Hz, I believe it won't make a difference. Not a noticeable one, anyway.

Comparing TN and S-PVA panels:

244T has got an S-PVA panel. Compared to my F-419 (TN panel) it has got gorgeous color reproduction, higher contrast and a much better viewing angle.

Disadvantages of a S-PVA panel are its price and its lower response times. The 244T has got 6ms gray-to-gray and 16ms white-to-black. Yet, I can't see any motion blur or ghosting.

only refresh you should be comparing is grey to grey

I have an Acer 22\" and it isn't bad... but I really wish I would have dished out the extra money for the Viewsonic. Much better monitor. Mine kind-of bleeds. :( Good refresh rate though. I can play Halo 3 on X-Box 360 with it and it looks great but I can't switch between DVI and AVG so it is rare I play my 360 on it.
