Friend has a Toshiba A25-S207 and the specs on HD are:
Mass Storage
• Primary Hard Disk Drive: 40GB* hard disk drive, Enhanced IDE
(ATA-5), 4200rpm, 9.7mm height, 0.2lbs, Service Removable.

Am I correct in looking for a PATA not a ATA HD to replace his original.

Also, does anyone know if Toshiba sent, with that model a WinXP cd or a Toshiba cd to install Windows from.

\"Enhanced IDE\" = EIDE = PATA

JUST A FYI:

PATA is a ATA Drive, the only difference is how the data is sent over the cable.

PATA is a Parallel sequence of data transmission

SATA is a Serial sequence of data transmission

take off the P and S of both and what are you left with? well of course its ATA, so they are both ATA Type drives, you just need to get the specs of the motherboard in that laptop to find out whether its a SATA based or a PATA based HDD.

EDIT: after toying around with the Toshiba website i found this:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais ... dgngdgmm.0

looks like these are PATA Drives... IIRC SATA Drives in laptops is still a pretty expensive a new thing.

Umm....do you even bother to google before posting? That is a normal 2.5\" notebook IDE drive.

ATA-5 is ATA66.

Thanks Acecombat, that site is where I got the specs I posted.

MD-2389, yes I did (see above) but since I'm unfamiliar with harddrives and I'm tring to help a friend (his money) I don't want to make a mistake.

Thanks for the posts.
