Toggling an LCD monitor between a PC and an XBox 360?

Post by []V[]essenjah »

Anyone know of a good monitor switch?

What I want to do, is switch a single monitor to a VGA chord for my 360 and the DVI port for my PC. However, I need to be able to toggle between them. Not like a regular KVM switch. Just a switch that will toggle between the two.

Perhaps a good DVI monitor switch that has an output DVI port for the monitor and two input DVI ports for the other devices, then I'll hook a DVI to VGA converter on one of the receiving ports. Anyone know of anything like this? I don't want to toggle it on a keyboard as that won't work. I Need this to toggle on the unit itself most likely.

UNLESS: I wonder if a KVM switch will work? Say, it uses DVI and USB instead of VGA and USB. I wonder if I could use the keyboard for IM on the 360 and still toggle it back and forth? Somehow I simply doubt this though. I suppose it might work. The other problem is that I have a G15 so I may not gain enough power for it to work either.

Any thoughts?

Use the KVM for the display, and just have a seperate KB/Mouse for the PC/Xbox.

A quick Google search turned up this site:

My Samsung syncmaster 204b has a DVI and a VGA in, and you can push a button on the front of the monitor to toggle between them. So I have my main PC on the DVI connection and my server PC on the VGA connection. One push of the button and (using a different KB/Mouse) I can control the server. No KVM switches or any other kind of switch required, any monitor with DVI and VGA in should be able to do it.
