Ram recomendations

Post by captain_twinkie »

Well I am looking into buying some more ram for my system that takes PC3200 memory, what all do you use? And how is it to do a warranty replacement if needed.

I've had some good and bad luck with kingston PC3200 memory. One set I got was defective and I had to RMA it three times before they gave me a working set. Another set I got worked perfectly in several different computers and still works fine today.

My current system is using Corsair (granted it is DDR2 PC6400). I would stick with Corsair or Crucial memory, the midrange memory from either brand will work fine without breaking the bank. Although the reality is most brands should be fine, just shop around by warranty.

I've used Crucial many times with almost never a problem. Of course, they are also located near me (convenient) ... but you might want to be aware that Crucial is actually Micron (not that that's a problem) and Micron recently has had a couple income slumps. Last I heard they were going to shutdown one of their US plants.

Corsair definitely gets my vote. So does Infineon if you're into overclocking at all. Their RAM performs well above and beyond its rated value.

Fiance's machine has Corsair Value Select. My main rig has Muskin. My laptop and other random boxes in the house all have crucial value type.

Never had a problem with any of them. I'd reccomend all three.
