I got a virus because of AVG
One day my computer was acting slow. freezing every few seconds while the cpu monitor went skyrocketing. What i did was use the xp system restore to go back to before i got the virus in the first place. i installed bit defender free. when i scanned my computer for a second time it found a virus in the RAM, startup, and in a nero folder. Actually it found two infected files. I Am not getting avg again. I'll stick with something else.

The reason AVG didn't work in your situation is because your problem lies between the chair and keyboard. (Also known as an ID10T error.) No anti-virus on the planet will save your computer from someone that doesn't know what the hell they're doing.
First off: If you think you have a virus, worm, whatever, DO NOT USE SYSTEM RESTORE. Anything worth the code language they're written in will infect those restore points, so you're only doing the guy that wrote it a favor.
If you download anything, even if the site looks \"trustworthy\", scan it FIRST before you run the installer. If you still aren't sure, run an internet search to see if there are any valid complaints about it. Yes, I know that seems anal, but when it comes to the safety of my data, if it keeps it safe in the end then I'm all for it.

You know, there was one day at work where the anti-virus program attacked us. I'm really not kidding. The update that the anti-virus company issued screwed up their software on Windows XP. Caused the whole system to bog down immensely so it was unusable. They recalled that update later and apologized for the inconvenience on their web site, but not before a half day of random strangeness!

Being that I continuously look for information online and have to visit all kinds of shopping sites, and other venues... I find all sorts of malware being installed just visiting or surfing these sites. Not just pron. Besides I have all the pron I need from Sat. so I generally don't have that problem on the puter side.

If you're gonna look for something to buy, check out Panda Internet Securtiy + Firewall.Nergen-Ak1-Defender wrote:One day my computer was acting slow. freezing every few seconds while the cpu monitor went skyrocketing. Also, don't overlook the new AVG + Firewall.
If you want something for free, you'll probably have to get a seperate firewall program which is just as, if not more important.
