It's a relatively new feature of the Anti-Cheat system on many Descent3 servers.

Basically, players were coming into games with their Descent3 network settings at very low dialup (like 28.8, etc.) to make themselves less smooth to others, and therefore harder to hit. So when this feature came out, servers began to enforce a \"minimum packets-per-second\" setting, to keep players from doing this. For example, my own [RIP]Rockies servers enforce a minimum of 9 PPS.

So as Krom said, just increase your D3 network settings in the D3 Launcher 'Network' tab. If you have any kind of broadband, it should be able to handle the highest setting. If you're one of the few actually still on dial-up, contact the server-op to see if they can make an exception for you.

Hmm, that's the DescentForum.NET Ascent server. It shouldn't kick you if you have your network settings set to the maximum.

Try checking again later. It may have to wait for the level to reset before it will let you in, although that shouldn't be the case.

Let us know how it goes.

Server is odd -- I just joined and brought up the netstats. 12/12 pps. Then the server kicked me for under pps :)

Wow, that IS odd. Could the server-op have set it to a minimum over 12PPS? That would explain why I never see anyone on that server lately... :P

Probably. Wasn't there a -pps command line option somewhere?

Yeah, seems like there was a -pps or -usepps, something like that. I don't see it in the D3 readme or faq, though.

If so, I suppose they could be using that server as a "20+pps" or something. (Gren said the netstats showed 12pps on the server, though. Hm.)

Now just a little FYI

at the time when D3 came out

Cable Modems were \"one way only\" (broadband down- with a dialup-pots upload)

ADSL was the fastest kid on the block back then with 786 down 128 up

so now if you have 2 Way-Cable or DSL/FIOS it should be set to \"T1, ADSL, T3, etc.\"

I seem to have a better workout dodging your stupidity than attempting to grasp the weight of your intelligence.

Well, I tried again tonight, and was able to get on (set to 12pps) just fine.

The \"Message of the day\" on the server mentioned \"check your network settings... minimum ISDN\", so my guess is that they were able to fix whatever the issue was with the minimum pps setting.

Bubbalou is also right; unless you're on dial-up, go ahead and set it to \"T1, ADSL, T3, etc.\", even the very worst DSL can handle that just fine.
