Q: Can you repartion a HDD that has Win XP on it without having to reinstall Windows from scratch?

I want to upgrade my \"Server\" with an old Game rig of my that is just building up dust right now that has a clean installation of XP on it because the intended use for the PC never realized so I want to replace my P3 server with this P4. It has a 20gb HDD I wish to split up into 15gb & 5gb (15 for the OS to be standalone and 5gb for a network drive)

I think I did see something like this in Ubuntu that u could increase your partion size. But that's Linux not Windows.

Partition Magic for WIndows will do it. I beleive it is owned by Symantec now.

Yes, that will do an excellant job of it.

NOTE: Be sure to defragment the drive really good FIRST. Makes repartitioning the drive MUCH safer.

I'd also suggest backing up anything of value. Even though my wife has used this many times, you can never be to safe.

Ya gonna do a complete backup of the server drives before rebuilding them to the new Server.

Nothing else but Win XP on that 20gb. Gonna put the data of a current 2gb partion on the 5gb. Wipe the current 10gb partion which have the OS on it and use that for a replacement partion for my 8gb HDD and take out this old HDD and the rest of the drive(s) are standalone partions / HDD's.

Minimum risk but making a backup is always a good Idea that and not connecting the other drives until the repartion is done !

Be sure if decide to use Partition Magic and your electrical grid suffers from power anomalies, that your system is on an UPS or run the gamble of having issues with MBR corruption. Always backup data you want to save before running partition magic. I usually sacrifice chickens and pizza to the four compass corners before running Symantic software now.
