Yeah, I've been playing that on Linux; it's fun if not very different from most games in the genre. The weapons and level sets are good, and the low-grav minstagib in Silver City rules.

First person shooter:
Sauerbraten. It's got single player games available. A very nice piece of work.
RPG:
The Battle for Wesnoth. Turn based Strategy/RPG. Nicely done!
Nethack or my favorite variation Slashem. Simple graphics, but some of the most incredibly complex gameplay in any game ever.
Interactive Fiction:
Zork and Colossal Cave Adventure
Or try Interactive Fiction Archive or IFiction for huge archives of free interactive fiction games.
Who needs graphics! Live a story!
Space Simulation:
Oolite An old game (Elite) updated with new graphics. Fly around space in 3d, trading goods and zapping pirates! It's slow, but fun! (It would be really neat to see something like this combined with Descent)
Racing:
Tux Race/PlanetPenguin Race/Extreme Tux Racer Tux the Penguin sliding down mountains covered with ice and snow at speeds of well over 100mph. Dang but its fun!
Torcs A cool open source Car Racing game
