While the liberal mindset rails at the thought of the Feds wanting to wiretap phone conversations to catch terrorists, quietly and unobtrusively our civil liberty's get yet another whack. All of you do know your text messages are kept by the phone companies and can be had through a simple court order? (Ask Detroit Mayor Kilpatrick about this). Security cams are watching your every move. So what part of your life do you think someone can not find out about?
I think woodchip's point is valid. While the people I bully online may think I'm hidden behind a barrier of anonymity, if I where to post some crazy rant about how I was going to blow something up, I'm sure the feds wouldn't have too much trouble figuring out what door to come knocking on.
This bill would accomplish 2 things:
It would strip away the illusion we have that we're really doing thing anonymously on the internet.
And
It would empower identity thieves, spammers, hackers, phishers, etc. to more easily attack us.
It's a terrible idea.

It would also empower people who don’t like someone online, to hassle them in real life. (like showing up at your door)
I have always been bugged with the idea of online anonymity…people sitting behind their keyboards like a big shot, saying things they would never say to my face…but what the hell…that’s the fact of life when your online, and a stupid bill like that would only make things worse.
Besides people are only disin’ your online alias anyway…not you…right?

Re:
1.) Liberal is someone who believes freedom and rights over anything. This is not synomymous with Democrat, just like Republicans are not always conservative, such as paying into stuff (besides the Iraq War) and not being a fiscal conservative.woodchip wrote:While the liberal mindset rails at the thought of the Feds wanting to wiretap phone conversations to catch terrorists, quietly and unobtrusively our civil liberty's get yet another whack. That is the only point I have, so blame the Democrats, leave the pure Liberals alone!
