I have checked the manufacturere's web site and it just says \"Athlon X2 Ready\"

It is a Socket 939 board. Was hoping someone was familiar with that architecture and could answer my question. :) Looking to upgrade from a 3700+ to a Dual Core Proc or similar speed.

Thanks!

Any particular core? I know some have differnt code names. Sorry I'm a little rusty when it comes to AMD these days.

Thanks again for the response.

The only two cores for Socket 939 X2 chips are the Manchester and Toledo cores (Toledo is the newest). The other two cores (Windsor and Brisbane) are socket AM2 only.

Also a socket 939 Opteron will work just as well if you can find one.

So would this:

Be considered an improvement over this:

(The CPU in the system now is actually a 3700+ Venice. Couldn't find that, so 3800 was just a notch up.)

the opteron dual core is better, simply because it has second CPU.

but if you can't find any dual core athlon, save up and go for a new MB+CPU+RAM combo.
