Just Another \"Police Shoot Poor Animal\" Movie

Post by Dakatsu »

http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2008/ ... 71-ap.html

If you guys watched ABC news last night it had more detail. They had animal control and such near the police, but instead, the police chased the cat into an alley. Then the police fired on the cat, claiming \"self-defense\".

I have to plain out say that that is 100% Bovine Fecal Matter of the Male Gender. Wadda ya guys think about teh kittay?

This is not a kitty cat, it was a 68 kilogram cougar. Thats about 149 lbs. of cat, darn straight I would shoot before taking any chances.

We'll never really know if the cat was lunging at him or not. he will never admit shooting the animal when it was sitting. I'm sure it did attacked because it was cornered.

But yes, I would of shot also had it attacked me.

My point is they had animal control there, and who do they send? POLICE OFFICERS! Wouldn't you think animal control would work well on an... animal?

And it is a cat, just a really big cat :)

A Cougar is serious animal, not to be messed with at all. Any critter that can make a bear back off deserves respect.

Heh, Cats normally run from a fight (survival instinct) but when push comes to shove most animals are out matched because a cat just has too many weapons, They have the teeth most other animals have and then the razor sharp claws to up the ante. Not to mention the pretty much unmatchable speed & strength.

But I always hate to hear when my favorite animals have to be put down, it’s just sad.

I hope you get mauled to death by a big cat.

Sorry but that just pisses me off what you said.

Is it the animals fault WE built cities near it's habitat? No it's ours. F8cking amazing how we humans will instantly kill an animal because we invade it's territory yet if the tides were turned and some alien force came to build into our backyard, we'd be pissed as hell and fight back. WTF you think this animal was doing? Fighting for it's right to survive.

I'd say it lost.

That's a real shame, cougars are awesome, but you can't have a cougar in a city. A cougar could go after a child.

Definately nothing to be happy about, but nothing to be up in arms about either.

You guys don't get the point do you?

They had animal control, but instead the cops went ahead and shot the cat. Animal control could of easily captured it, and they were on the scene!

Dak, it was a cougar. not a \"cat\". That was Chicago with nervous cops. I'm not going to waist emotional energy over animals that drop every day more frequently by being hit by CARS than a careless cop shootings.

I could use this every easily (and justifiably)as a platform to bring up abortion...again.

Gee, it sounds like you were actually there. If they could have "easily captured it," I would think they would have.

Is there an anti-cougar conspiracy? Did these officers make the wrong call because the CPD doesn't have specialized cougar training courses? :P

I would be inclined to be extremely lenient with the officers in question, even if it was a bad call, unless there was evidence of inappropriate behavior. I mean, at most sit down and let 'em know that maybe there could have been more done to avoid a confrontation until Animal Control arrived (yeah, it looks like they got there after the unfortunate conclusion), maybe use it as an occasion for a little bit of animal behavior training for the whole force, in the interest of affecting a better outcome if something similar where to happen again.

As it is, after watching a few videos from the ABC website, I feel sorry for the officers. Sounds like they'll have all of the PETA-type idiots, etc. on their backs.
