Benchmarking a network

Hi everyone
Anyone here know of any good tools that can be used to benchmark throughput on any given LAN? I'd like to run a few tests on some of the equipment I have to see if maybe one of my cables is bad or something. Any suggestion? Ideal program would just be something that uses UDP and transmits from one machine to another at the maximum sustainable rate for a minute or so and records the transfer rate and any packet loss that occurs. A few TCP tests would also be nice. I know I could probably find what I'm looking for with google, but I'd rather ask here where people actually seem to know what theyre talking about
Thanks in advance
