i use it to talk to the Card readers on Dresser Wayne pumps
http://www.wayne.com/ the issue is u have 4 pumps and the data is on 1 big loop ex Sorce -> pump 1 & 2 -> pump 3 & 4 -> back to sorce but some sites have 8+
the Ethernet to Serial converter we use jsut doesnt put out enough of a kick to make it all the way cause wireing that ohhhh 10-30yrs old doesnt have the cleanest singnal so the 4000Ft rule gets blown out of the water cause by the time the data gets back to the other end its just shredded and choppy.
i allready have and Current Loop amp but its the 485 part thats kicking my ass LOL.
i tryed a relay and it jsut made it worse.

Have you considered just plain rewiring period, if the connections are that bad... Doing it right once will take less time and money than doing it wrong several times.

We have tryed it but the device just put such a high demand on the port server it doesn't help out much becaue its sending down GFX, credit and printer data its just to much of a straine
