Any of you have a idea what this is about:

\"WASHINGTON -- NASA has scheduled a media teleconference Wednesday, May 14, at 1 p.m. EDT, to announce the discovery of an object in our Galaxy astronomers have been hunting for more than 50 years. This finding was made by combining data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory with ground-based observations.\"

Maybe they found the Vulcan home world.

\"Object in our galaxy\" suggests it's not something within our solar system, and the fact that they've been searching for 50 years suggests it's something that's been hypothesized for quite a while, but not yet directly observed.

My guess: dark matter

Sounds like a black hole to me. IIRC, there was an assumption that we had one in the Milky Way, but I don't think anyone ever pin-pointed where it was.

Black holes (or their direct environs) have already been found and photographed.

D'oh, we're all wrong... apparently it's the youngest observed supernova. Cool stuff...
