Is Photoshop CS worth it.

Post by TigerRaptor »

Now I all ready have Photoshop version 7.0 and I wanted to know is there a big difference between the two programs. Is it really worth upgrading to the newer version.

I have the academic version of photoshop CS and it doesnt seem realy all that different from photoshop 7 so far.

But then, there might be something useful in it that I have yet to encounter.

The layer comp feature looks like it could be useful, but I have yet to use it.

All I know is my sister does comics for Dark Horse Comics using the latest version of PhotoShop CS and she remarked that there isn't a very big difference between it and 7.0.

7. I use it and like it and am not thinking about CS. Go to the Hilton with your girlfriend or something.

Here is a quote from that link. Judge for your self if you want to take the time to read 1377 posts in that thread.

Topic
No Wonder Photoshop CS Seems Slow - It's Analyzing Images For Content!

Brian NoSpam - 11:02am Jan 7, 2004 Pacific

We received a TIFF image from a customer, of a $20 bill. The image does
*not* violate any laws regarding reproduction of currency (it's not even
close to actual-size, and it's not a "flat" portrayal - it's wavy, as if
it's fluttering in the wind. Nor is it real-color.

However, Photoshop CS refuses to open the image, and provides an error
message regarding the (il)legality of currency reproduction and an
"information" button that takes you to the web. (Photoshop 7, of course,
has no such qualms).

What the hell is this? In my book this is completely unacceptable -
Photoshop is an image editor, not a censor, government policy enforcer
or anything else.

Adobe, you've got some explaining to do.

Brian

How can the program possibly know it's a currency?
And what's "CS" stand for anyway? CensorShip?

most xerox machines have similar safeguards in them to stop you photocopying money. i guess they are programmed with an inteligence that can spot moneys of various currency.

but for Adobe to start doing this too, this is a stupid move. since they don't have a monopoly like Xerox does.

I still like Paint Shop Pro 7 the best. It's fast, very affordable, and gets the job done. I don't, however, recommend PSP8. It is bug-laden and there is much broken about it - including the undo function. They also messed severely with the Bezier curve function I use to outline my art, making it extremely cumbersome to use. If PSP9 follows in the same vein, I'll probably abandon Jasc and move up to Photoshop or grit my teeth in Gimp (which I should add has made tremendous strides in version 2.0 and promises even more improvements in 3.0).
