P35 or X38

Post by woodchip »

I finally bought a intel q6600 cpu b3 (go stepping)
Now I need to figure out which MB to use. Using XP pro, what MB would you overclockers use? I've been getting conflicting info but the P35 series boards seem to be much better value. While the X38 are designed more for the DDR3 ram, from the tests I looked at, DDR2 seems (at least for gaming)very close to equivalent boards running DDR3.

So unless someone disabuses me of the P35 option, I would like to hear from any of you that may know which p35 boards run stable. I also been reading that the type of ram memory may affect the stability overall.

Any help/discussion greatly appreciated

I use a Gigabyte P35 board with my Q6600 G0... it's been completely stable for me, plus the BIOS options for overclocking are really laid out well.

Looks like I'll be going with Grendels suggestion for the Asus P5q Deluxe MB. Additionally I'm thinking of using a ATI Sapphire HD3870 vid card with the Vapor-x cooling. Now I have to start learning about HD's and sata connectors
