Registry permissions and D3

I've concluded that games that use registry-based configuration and profile storage cannot connect to the internet when playing online games.

Jedi Academy is labeled as \"blocked\" in the Firewall config but I can still connect.

Halo and Descent 3 are allowed through every port and firewall thing on this computer and will not connect if my life depended on it.

What the heck?

Correctly updated D3?
Have you tried to join a server using the ingame direct TCP/IP menu?
Tried completely disabling the windows firewall?

Had Pissta forever.

We shall now observe a moment of silence for the removal of the mighty XP from the market...

@Krom: Yeah, done all that. I have just recently discovered the registry-based program problem, so I thought I might bring this issue up again.

None! Will that help if I moved them appropriately?

Edit: I run D3 from a flash drive, Halo from my local drive.
