That turn of phrase is British and also an unrehearsed comment. If he wrote it down and edited it for an international audience I suspect it would be more like
\"Religion has no monopoly on truth or beauty\"
Having a Welsh/Scottish mother and living in a country with strong British roots the original comment seems clear to me but language is a funny thing and I have to say that my interpretation is just my opinion. I don't want to claim to put words in Mr. Fry's mouth.
