Finally got the source!

Today I finally got the Linux and MacOS source for D3. So right now I'm working on the Linux port, then I'll do the MacOS port.
This patch will eventually include a reworked PXO setup...PXO games won't require a login and will be interchangable with direct ip games. We'll probably keep the chat server, but I'm thinking of changing the way the game tracker works to use a http request to get a list of games. Then the user could add in custom URL to check in addition the standard one. The details aren't final, but Matt and Mike want to turn over PXO to the community, which means I will be making the server source available at some point.
I've got a lot of work to do now, as soon as a I have a testable Linux and Mac version I'll be looking for people to test. Thanks for your patience...I'll work as fast as I can.
P.S. My 4.5 year old Christopher can now complete level one, two, and four all by himself (except for getting through the subways, I do that for him) -- without cheating! Loving to play Descent must be genetic!

Heck yeah! Just in time too. Logitech has been giving me major trouble about getting my stick replaced, but now I have a plan for getting another one. So... I expect to be back in the mines soon, although I'll probably suck again (I hate taking breaks from D3 like this).

I will be MOST HAPPY to eat my hat. Very happy indeed.
Thanks Kevin.
I was on the original 1.5 beta test team. I'm more than happy to resurrect a 1.5 install and dig up a lot of notes I made during the testing.

If somebody asked me: \"Hey Checkor - do you really think a 1.5 will ever be officially released?\" I always said: \"If Kevin says so, it will happen, but don't ask me of WHEN\".
So I am REALLY glad that my words seem to become true.
THANK YOU VAAAAAARRRRY MUCH Sir Bentley for your continued support to our community!
A big hug from my fellas at the german

I hate to be the realistic one, but I'll be more excited when its installed on my PC
Anywho, this will have to be enough for now. Keep up the good work Kevin

*raises hand* I'd be more than willing to help with the Mac testing. A quick question though; is it going to be Carbonized? It's fine if it's not, I'll just have to grab my other hard drive. But having a OS X native version of D3 would be kickass.

Hmmm, where did I put my install discs?
Aside from the great news about the patch, wise decision regarding giving PXO to the community. That is the only way to keep the game going.

hmmm, I'd like to get my hands on the fusion engine

by Mr. Perfect
$100,000 gets you a license from Outrage.
Posted: Thu Feb 05, 2004 8:20 pm
by DCrazy
Except that Outrage doesn't exist anymore and I believe the one additional project for which they wanted to use the Fusion Engine, Rubu Tribe, wound up canned. I'm pretty sure Alter Echo uses a different engine as well.
Posted: Thu Feb 05, 2004 8:39 pm
by ccb056
so, does that mean the fusion engine is up for grabs?

THQ did not buy anything related to Descent, Freespace, or Parallax Online. Matt Toschlog owns the rights to the source code, but Interplay has some control over the game itself still.

ccb, as I understand it, the Fusion engine was "up for grabs" the day wit was copyrighted. You sell it off to other developers just like the Quake 3 engine and the Half-Life engine. The fusion engine is rather antiquated4 years later. It is also 2 engines working together. One for outside environments and one for inside. As I recall, D3 was one of the first to offer this kind of transition.

Thanks a lot, Kevin! I'll also be happy to test the Linux beta.
(Assuming that I manage to get my other problems with the Loki version of D3 fixed first.)
