People of Nevada ............please, please,
... please send this aging relic to a long overdue retirement. In evidence, I place the following document -

wherein Mr. Reid become completely unhinged. I was fairly dumbfounded as I listened to him blather on an on, ridiculous assertion followed on by halftruths and bile.
Harry, here's a statement on McCain's energy policy prescription from McCain website Took me all of about 20 seconds of search time to find it; and it sounds nothing at all as the way you've described it.
Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor over oil, indeed !!!!!!
Harry, go home !!!

I agree the republicans will say anything just like the democrats will to give their side of the machine a lift up but what would be really great is if the reaction to these kind of revelations switch from pointing out how the other side does it too into complete outrage with the system.Gooberman wrote:Just wait tell next week. I bet McCain couldn't be more pleased with the Clinton's convention this week.
My friend McCain....brave soldier McCain....a true American Hero McCain.....oh, and his policy sux.
Re:
You simply have more faith in the intelligence of our fellow Americans then I do. I would like to think that Americans could band together and end the dirty politics and the two party System. I would also like to believe that George Clooney's next movie will feature tap dancing on par with Gene Kelly. I think thats more likely. Will Robinson wrote:I agree the republicans will say anything just like the democrats will to give their side of the machine a lift up but what would be really great is if the reaction to these kind of revelations switch from pointing out how the other side does it too into complete outrage with the system.

Our culture is about the show, not the talent. At least they Make'um laugh.
Anyway, Obama will take the stage soon. Say what you will about Barack, the man has some balls going out there. It's always the ones who preach hope that are in the most danger.

way better than Clinton's juvenile "power of our example rather than example of our power" throwaway.
Re:
It is not that "We" don't shame them. When is the last time on a person to person basis that anyone has something positive to say about politicians? The real problem is our vaunted press that is supposed to shame the politicians in a very public manner....doesn't. When it comes to politics it would appear we no longer have a free press as they seem to have their favorites and go out of their way to protect them (politicians)Dedman wrote:That has to be the best thing I have read in a very long time. Can I say, as a moderate who leans left, that I don't like Harry Reid? Because I hate him. I'm not fond of Howard Dean either. I think he's an idiot.
No, the problem is with the voters. The people who are complacent and who believe that nothing will change. The people who blindly vote for the person with the (R) or the (D), or the person who planted the most signs on the lawn or who ran the fancy commercial.
The thing is, for every voter who carefully reads the pamphlet, goes on-line, finds out all there is to know - there are countless voters who throw it all away. People don't take the process seriously, even after the year 2000. We've gotten sloppy about this. For all of the patriotism that we fling around in this country, people don't take the basic act of voting seriously.
You'd be surprised in this last Washington election how many Republicans I voted for because I care. The government is in a shambles here and led us straight into a multi-billion dollar deficit, led by Democrats who control everything. Unfortunately, this is a very liberal part of the country and I'm sure those same people will get elected again. Tyranny of the majority.
You can have 4 stations on a 24-hour cycle and you still couldn't cover all the shame that should go around, Woodchip. And I don't mean "How many houses does he have?" shame. I mean real "You squandered how many billions of tax dollars?" shame.woodchip wrote:When is the last time on a person to person basis that anyone has something positive to say about politicians? Say what you want about Clinton, but I think that is one of the greatest things said in a while. sure Dakatsu. I'll answer that. The power of our example of us turning tail and bugging out of Iraq, back when things were hot and heavy, would have impressed the Islamic radicals all right - into knowing that all they had to do was bleed the Great Satan a little bit and then they'd head for the hills. But the example of our power (the surge and its aftermath) is what really got their attention. The same with Saddam's invasion of Kuwait; Hussein was convinced the Americans wouldn't have the stones to come over and boot him out. So you see, at least sometimes, Clinton had his little saying exactly backwards. Some folk just won't give a rat's eyelash about how nice your example is, but they will respect a principled show of strength.
Clinton was good at packaging his little aphorisms for the masses, as long as they had a little grain of truth. But a grain of truth will not necessarily make a whole loaf of bread. (See there - I can do it too.

Re: People of Nevada ............please, please,
Actually, reasonably true. Japan's war machine needed resources in order to continue fighting in China, and wasn't getting it due to the US's oil embargo. Both sides knew there were resources in various parts of the Pacific (the Japanese called the Indies region the "Southern Resource Area"; the Dutch East Indies had plenty of oil.) That's why we had the fleet way out there in Pearl Harbor instead of in San Fran -- as a message to Japan that they couldn't run unchecked throughout the Pacific. They attacked Pearl Harbor for the same reason the Luftwaffe attacked the British airfields -- they couldn't move on to the next step of their plan until they'd taken out the Allies' ability to respond.dissent wrote:Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor over oil, indeed !!!!!!
Doesn't make Harry Reid any less of a blathering relic, though.
Yea, but you have to make way too many connections to draw that conclusion. Imho
The Japnese needed resources, and oil was one of them, but that was not why they attacked the US. That’s like saying I had to remove my shoes to get to my sox.
